When Liz, Colin\u2019s wife, met Vinny \u2014 a small black kitten \u2014 at the animal clinic where she works, it was love at first sight. This sweet little guy had survived a brutal attack while living on the streets. Colin shares: \u201cVinny was found as a 2- to 3-week-old kitten by the son of a local animal shelter\u2019s chairman. He walked right up to the man and started purring immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Vinny was scratched up, he had several wounds on his face and head, and his right ear was severely damaged. Thankfully, the man who found him brought him directly to a nearby shelter, where he received the medical attention he needed.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had to undergo two surgeries: the first was to remove his ear and ear canal up to the skull due to an infection, and the second was to treat additional infections,\u201d Colin says.<\/p>\n

After recovering, Vinny was placed in a loving foster home. But when his foster mom became overwhelmed, Liz offered to care for him while she was also bottle-feeding other kittens. \u201cIn October, Liz brought Vinny home and planned to care for him until he was ready for adoption,\u201d explains Colin.<\/p>\n

Despite everything he had been through, Vinny \u2014 named after the one-eared painter Vincent van Gogh \u2014 quickly settled into his new home with Colin and Liz.<\/p>\n

Over the next six weeks, Vinny charmed his foster parents with his sweet and loving personality. On New Year\u2019s Eve 2019, the couple officially adopted him. \u201cVinny was just such a social and affectionate little guy that we knew he belonged with us,\u201d Colin remembers.<\/p>\n

In the following five months, Vinny thrived. Even though he looks a bit different from other pets, missing an ear doesn\u2019t affect his quality of life. Colin explains: \u201cCats who are missing something like an ear or an eye usually aren\u2019t significantly impacted.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Vinny is an incredibly happy and active eight-month-old kitten. He loves playing with leaves, napping on blankets, climbing his cat tree, and relaxing on his family\u2019s balcony.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople often think that his hearing or other senses might be affected because he\u2019s missing an ear,\u201d Colin says. \u201cThat tells us that people think animals with missing parts are somehow broken. But in our experience, there\u2019s no difference at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without a doubt, Vinny is absolutely adorable. And although his life began with hardship, this amazing kitten is now thriving, thanks to the loving people who helped him \u2014 including Colin and Liz.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

They never set out to adopt a one-eared black kitten, but Colin and Liz are incredibly grateful they did. \u201cWe didn\u2019t know we needed a tiny black cat with one ear in our lives \u2014 but he fits our family perfectly,\u201d says Colin. \u201cVinny means the world to us.\u201d<\/p>\n
