Imagine going so long without food that you’d even eat sharp glass shards or discarded batteries just to feel a little warmth in your stomach. This was the cruel fate of a dog known as Eric before he got his second chance.
The Unbelievable Discovery
One ordinary spring morning, an animal rescuer found this pitiful figure in the abandoned garden of a public housing area in Accrington, UK. The dog was so emaciated he could barely lift his head. His ribs were clearly visible, his coat was dirty, matted, and stained with urine spots.
Anyone who saw the poor animal wished to act immediately. The rescuer, experienced in many neglect cases, was shocked: she had never seen a dog so gaunt before.
Rescue at the Last Minute
Without hesitation, she picked the dog up and took him straight to a vet. There, the full extent of his suffering became clear: his stomach was filled with glass shards, metal pieces, and even parts of a battery. The little body had consumed anything that seemed edible – out of hunger and desperation.
The vet described him as one of the weakest dogs he had ever treated: his heart struggled to beat, his immune system was shattered, and every bone in his body showed under thin skin.
